10:46 PM: San Marcos Confirms One Fatality in Weekend Floods And Additional Developments

The City of San Marcos has confirmed one fatality in the Memorial Day Weekend floods.
 
Authorities found a man deceased in the northern area of San Marcos Sunday, May 24. No information about his identity, home of record or cause of death is available.
 
In other developments:
 
·         A curfew for affected areas of Hays County, including in the City of San Marcos, will be in effect between 9 p.m. Sunday, May 24 and 7 a.m. Monday, May 25.
·         Memorial Day events have been cancelled in San Marcos, and all river parks are closed. This includes the Lions Club tube rental operation located at the City Park Rec Hall.
·         A hotline has been established for people to report their location if they are displaced and believe loved ones are looking for them: 512.393.7896. People looking for a loved one should call 512.753.2180.
·         All evacuation orders remain in effect for Rio Vista, the Blanco Gardens area, Crepe Myrtle/Pecan/Hackberry Streets area, and the portions of Blanco Vista nearest to the river.
·         Shelters remain open in San Marcos (San Marcos Activity Center, 501 West Hopkins Street) and Wimberley (Wimberley High School, located at 100 Carney Lane).
 
Floodwaters have damaged substantial areas in Hays County and San Marcos. Wimberley was hit especially hard, with thousands of properties damaged and more than 60 homes washed off of their foundations.
 
This flood event is the most severe in recent memory, with the Blanco River peaking yesterday at 43.2 feet in Wimberley and flowing at more than 223,000 cubic feet per second. Flood stage in Wimberley is 12 feet.
 
The Blanco River topped its banks in San Marcos, backing the San Marcos River up at the confluence of the two rivers early Sunday morning.
 
Floodwaters are receding, but river conditions remain dangerous on the Blanco and San Marcos Rivers.
 
Also during this storm event, a tornado struck Dripping Springs Saturday evening, destroying 25 mobile homes.
 
Preliminary damage estimates in San Marcos include:
·         550 properties and 1,130 structures impacted by the flooding
·         Water was reported in homes along Riverside Drive in San Marcos
·         The entire area bordered by River Road, IH-35, and SH 80, with the majority of homes receiving at least a foot of water
·         The area along River Road from Davis Lane to Uhland, including an apartment complex at the intersection of Aquarena Springs Drive and River Road
·         A number of homes in the area of Pecan, Crepe Myrtle and Hackberry Streets with high water marks as high as five feet
·         River Ridge Parkway west of IH-35 sustained 2-4 feet of flooding
·         Five Mile Dam Park along Old Stagecoach Road  by the Blanco River was flooded
 
Damaged roads in San Marcos include:
·         Smith and Sherbarb
·         The northbound frontage road of IH-35 near the River Road turnaround
·         Post Road and Old Stagecoach Road along the Blanco River
·         Old Martindale Road at the Blanco River
