13th Annual Bobcat Build Seeking San Marcos Job Sites, Volunteers

SAN MARCOS – Nearly 4,000 students, faculty and staff are expected to participate in the 13th annual Bobcat Build Saturday, March 28, volunteering at more than 250 job sites in the San Marcos area.

Bobcat Build has grown to become the second-largest student-run, student-led service project in the state of Texas.

The program started as a way for Bobcats to give back to the community that surrounds Texas State. Each year, student organizations and other groups of students join Bobcat Build perform site work that includes painting residential homes, yard work, outside beautification, working with non-profit organizations and much more.

“These students came to our home and demonstrated respect, a wonderful attitude and desire to work hard,” said Dean and Sandra Cherer, whose house was a job site in 2014. “It was such a pleasure to be surrounded by young, hard-working volunteers.”

Bobcat Build is currently seeking eligible jobsites in the community. Anyone interested in becoming a jobsite should apply online at www.bobcatbuild.txstate.edu or pick up a paper application at the San Marcos Library. All residential, educational and non-profit (churches, fire stations, police stations, food banks, etc.) applicants are considered.

“Bobcat Build is an amazing service event that impacts homeowners in a way that sometimes makes them cry with joy,” said Noragene Green, who has participated as a jobsite recipient. “It touches their hearts.”

Students and employees at Texas State are invited to take part in the one-day project organized by the Bobcat Build Planning Committee, a student organization of approximately 40 students housed in Student Involvement at the LBJ Student Center.
