Wimberley senior community surprises pirate-loving resident with sailing trip

Staff Reports

WIMBERLEY – Alexis Pointe, an independent living, assisted living, and memory care community in Wimberley, TX, a city about 40 miles southwest of Austin, just fulfilled a ‘miracle moment’ for Ms. Elizabeth Dibrell, a swash-bucklin’, special resident.
Ms. Elizabeth Dibrell

Elizabeth’s love for pirates and nautical adventure comes from the novel Swallows And Amazons by Arthur Ransome. She is always wearing a pirate-themed hat and touting a Jolly Roger flag everywhere she goes.

Now, she can check off her bucket list that she went on a sailing trip, a surprise organized by Alexis Pointe employees. Elizabeth, a couple of her family members, and an Alexis Pointe employee all went on the sailing trip on Canyon Lake on November 17, 2021.

“It has always been her dream to go sailing,” says Katy Starr, Community Relations Director of Alexis Pointe. “Words can’t express how magical the sailing adventure went. Elizabeth LOVED it!”

Elizabeth kept saying that, “this was an adventure of a lifetime!” She has been smiling and talking about it with her friends since the trip occurred.

The sailors wished to remain anonymous, but the community wanted them to know they made possible a very special memory for a very special lady and her family. The community couldn’t have made it happen without these good-hearted men.

Media members are welcome to visit and interview Ms. Elizabeth, her family, and the leadership members of Alexis Pointe about the sailing trip. The photos attached were taken by Alexis Pointe and are free for media use.

Fort Worth-based operator of Alexis Pointe, Civitas Senior Living, has a signature program called Miracle Moments with the goal to create new and exciting memories in each of their communities. Because of the program, residents have had numerous parties and reunions, planned vow renewals, enjoyed hot air balloon rides, gone two-stepping, and walked a marathon.
