San Marcos Police and SWAT arrest man for traffic-related aggravated assault

SAN MARCOS – The San Marcos Police Department (SMPD) investigated a traffic-related aggravated assault that led to the arrest of 25-year-old Drake Jensen.

According to SMPD, at approximately 7 p.m. on Jan. 12, 2022, officers were called to investigate an aggravated assault. Two victims told police they were driving northbound on I-35 when they encountered a white Toyota Corolla. The man driving the Toyota began driving aggressively, used various hand gestures, and waved a firearm at them.

“The victims exited I-35 to get away from the other vehicle, but the Toyota exited at the same time and pulled up beside the victims’ car, firing one shot that hit the door of the victims’ vehicle,” SMPD said in a Facebook post. “The victims were able to share the Toyota’s license plate information, and officers used that to locate the driver of the Toyota, 25-year-old Drake Jensen, at the Uptown Square apartments.”

Jenson refused to come out of his apartment upon officers’ arrival, and SWAT was called to the scene. Officers eventually entered the apartment and safely arrested Jensen without further incident. He faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

SMPD said they have investigated several aggravated assaults related to traffic incidents within the last couple of weeks. The police department recommends avoiding provoking other drivers when you’re behind the wheel. Stay calm, be courteous and considerate. Don’t tailgate or flash your lights and use your horn sparingly.

The department also recommends giving angry drivers plenty of room and creating space by slowing down or changing lanes. Avoid eye contact, don’t make gestures or yell obscenities and avoid drivers who do. If you’re concerned about your safety, call 911.
