“The 2017 schedule promises to be an exciting one with challenging opponents in both non-conference and conference play,” said Conner. “Bobcat soccer fans can expect aggressive, energized matches.”
First up for the Bobcats is an exhibition game at UTSA on Friday, August 11 at 7 p.m. A week later the regular season begins with the first of four straight home matches with a contest against Northern Arizona, who reached the Big Sky Conference Championship game. The opening weekend concludes with a visit from a very well defensively organized and quick attacking Louisiana Tech squad on the 20th.
The following weekend sees Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and McNeese come to San Marcos for games on the 25th and 27th, respectively.
Over the next six games, five will take Texas State on the road beginning the first weekend of September with trips to Northwestern State and Stephen F. Austin. A home match against Prairie View A&M on the 8th closes out the non-conference portion of the Bobcats’ schedule.
Sun Belt Conference play begins on the 15th in Atlanta against a smart, fast Georgia State team. That Sunday will see the Bobcats compete in a physically demanding match at Coastal Carolina.
“In conference, the Sun Belt competitors have grown markedly stronger with fast, technical athletes and greater depth on their rosters,” Conner said. “We are eager to take on these teams. Each of which will see Bobcat soccer athletes maximizing their technical, tactical and athletic abilities.”
The first home conference contest will be on the 22nd against Georgia Southern. The Bobcats then hit the road for the last time in September on the 24th with a trip to Arkansas State.
On October 1, Texas State takes on Appalachian State at the Bobcat Soccer Complex and then a week later hosts Louisiana. Both games will kickoff at 1 p.m.
The final two road matches of the year takes the Bobcats to ULM on the 13th and then to Little Rock on the 15th.
For the second year in-a-row, Texas State will conclude the regular season at home. First up will be a 7 p.m. game on the 20th against Troy. Two days later on Senior Day the Bobcats will take on the three-time defending conference champions South Alabama
A top eight finish in the conference standings would see Texas State qualify for the SBC Tournament. The tournament will take place November 1-5 in Foley, Alabama at the Foley Sports Complex.
“Our 11 incoming freshman show great potential that we anticipate will add to support the team’s outstanding level of play,” stated Conner. “The veterans are primed and ready to go on the attack for a Sun Belt Championship and post-season competition.”
“2017 is sure to be one of our most exciting seasons yet, so don’t miss a game as the Bobcats strive for the Sun Belt title and a berth in the NCAA Tournament.”
