2018-19 Sun Belt Conference Basketball Schedules Announced

The seven teams that TXST will face both at home and on the road are Appalachian State, Arkansas State, Coastal Carolina, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Little Rock and UT Arlington.

NEW ORLEANS – The Sun Belt Conference announced the 2018-19 men’s and women’s basketball conference schedules on Tuesday.

The conference will utilize an 18-game conference schedule for each men’s and women’s basketball program for a third-straight year in 2018-19. The conference schedules will feature a mirror schedule format for the first time as men’s and women’s teams will play at different venues, and not play doubleheaders, over the course of a Thursday-Saturday conference game week.

The 2018-19 conference schedules will feature other aspects from previous seasons as well. In addition to maintaining the Thursday-Saturday format, league contests will continue to be played using travel partners for two-game road trips to maximize rest, minimize travel times and limit missed class time.

Men’s and women’s basketball teams will only travel four times for two-game road trips and will each take just one, single-game road trip all season.

Those single-game road trips will be for rivalry games. Selected rivalry games will still be played as doubleheaders, per requests from those competing institutions.

Opening up the SBC slate at home, the Texas State men’s basketball team will host Georgia Southern on Jan. 3. The first home conference game for Bobcats women’s basketball squad takes place a week later with a clash against Coastal Carolina.

The seven teams that TXST will face both at home and on the road are Appalachian State, Arkansas State, Coastal Carolina, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Little Rock and UT Arlington. The Bobcats will play Louisiana, South Alabama, Troy and ULM once during the regular season with the women hosting the Alabama programs and the men welcoming the Louisiana schools to San Marcos.

For the second consecutive season, Texas State will close the regular season with a matchup with in-state rival UTA.

The women routed the Lady Mavericks on senior day last season to clinch the second seed in the 2018 Sun Belt Conference Championship while the men battled the Mavericks on national television before falling on a last second three-pointer.

This season will see the women host UTA and the men play at the College Park Center in Arlington.

Start times for conference games will be announced by each institution at a later date. Select game dates may be adjusted for live coverage on the ESPN family of networks. The conference’s broadcast schedule will be announced prior to the start of the season.

The 2019 Sun Belt Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships will see 10 teams in each bracket, but with only eight making it to Lakefront Arena in New Orleans.

For both the men’s and women’s tournaments, two opening round games will be played on campus with the No. 7 seed hosting the No. 10 seed and the No. 8 seed hosting the No. 9 seed. The No. 1 seed and No. 2 seed will receive byes to the semifinals and the No. 3 seed and No. 4 seed to receive byes to the quarterfinals.
