The Member-Artists at 218 Co-op Gallery are excited to announce Martha Gibson: Surface Stories as their first Guest Artist show since forming the Cooperative in 2017.
The September 20th opening reception will coincide with downtown San Marcos’s Third Thursday event which finds shops open late and the streets filled with art and live music.
Surface Stories explores the way in which compelling mixed-media elements can be combined to tell new stories. Vintage doll parts and 19th century photographic portraits blend with images of family members.
The resulting works invite the viewer to experience the contradictions of time and to read the partial stories that appear on the surface of each of us.
Surface Stories will run through October 18th. During that closing reception, Martha will be on-hand in the gallery demonstrating an image transfer technique she often uses in the creation of her pieces.
218 Co-op Gallery is a member owned Texas Cooperative art space located just off San Marcos’s historic downtown square at 218 N. Guadalupe.
