The American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) and the San Marcos Public Library are co-sponsoring a free income tax assistance program at the library from February 2 to April 15 on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Mondays from 3 pm- 6 pm.
This service provides assistance to the low-income, handicapped, and elderly with filling out their income tax returns.
There will be no service on February 18 as the library will be closed for a national holiday.
Taxpayers who utilize this free, walk-in service must bring a copy of last year’s income tax return, a social security card for themselves and all dependents, a photo ID, and any other tax-related information.
E-filing is also offered and those who wish to have their refund direct deposited into their account will need to bring a check or a letter from their bank including the bank routing number and account number.
The library also offers free tax forms for taxpayers to pick up and forms and publications can also be printed from the IRS website at irs.gov/Forms-&-Pubs.
For further information, contact the San Marcos Public Library at (512) 393-8200 or visit the library at 625 E. Hopkins St. and inquire at the information desk.
