Carl Brown came to Gary Job Corps in 1985 for a position as a part-time carpenter and wound up becoming a full time employee. During his time at the Gary Job Corps Center Carl has held positions as carpentry instructor, career technical training manager, vocational skills training coordinator, and for the past 5 years as the maintenance manager over the entire Gary Center, 800 acres and 125 buildings.
During his time as maintenance manager he oversaw the rehabilitation of numerous buildings, center laundromat, testing center, recycling center, hazmat storage building , over 20 gazebos around center, and concrete sidewalks/pads with the concrete students, naming a few, in addition with the everyday overseeing of the center maintenance.
Carl said of his time at Gary Job Corps, “I have been so impressed how young men and women can come together and work together to learn and live together. I saw myself in a lot of the students, I was given a chance to learn a trade and support my family, like the Job Corps is giving to these young men and women, the future of our country is in the hands of programs like the Job Corps.”
