AG Paxton: TX Obtains Order To Halt Tobacco Shop’s Sale of Synthetic Drugs

AUSTIN – Attorney General Ken Paxton today announced that his office obtained a temporary restraining order (TRO) against Tobacco Junction #1, Tobacco Junction #2, its owners, and Kassi Business, Inc., prohibiting the sale of synthetic marijuana. The TRO stems from the joint operation of the Texas Attorney General’s Office and Corpus Christi Police Department’s Narcotic Vice Investigation Division (NVID) and found that the tobacco shop’s owners were in violation of the Texas Deceptive Trade Practice Act.

The undercover operations conducted by the NVID resulted in search/arrest warrants for the tobacco shop and owners’ residences. Law enforcement officers seized over 400 packets of synthetic marijuana, two hand guns, and over $20,000 in cash. The Texas Attorney General’s Office filed the lawsuit and TRO request in the Nueces County district court naming the following defendants:

  • Aarshiya Memon
  • Abdul Shakir Memon, also known as Shakir Memon;
  • Kassi Business, Inc doing business as;
  • Tobacco Junction #1 and the real property known as 4346 Ayers St., Corpus Christi, Texas
  • Tobacco Junction #2 and the real property known as 9858 Leopard St. Corpus Christi, Texas

Synthetic marijuana is a highly addictive and dangerous drug; side effects of paralysis, brain damage, disorientation, and death have been reported affecting the Texas youths.  Packaging for the synthetic drug at Tobacco Junction #1 and Tobacco Junction #2 contained no ingredients or warning labels indicating that the product may be harmful to one’s health.
