AGE Of Central Texas, Area Agency On Aging Host Free “Striking A Balance” Virtual Caregiver Conference

AGE of Central Texas and the Area Agency on Aging of the Capital Area are again partnering this year for the 19th Annual “Striking a Balance” Caregiver Conference. 

This year, the free conference event goes virtual from August 17 to August 20 to support family members who are caring for an older adult.

The largest, longest-run free caregiver conference in Central Texas, the annual event provides unpaid caregivers with relevant information and vital resources to help to ease the challenges of caring for an aging family member. 

Participants will discover local resources, acquire skills to better manage their caregiving situation, and connect with national and local experts on aging.

Highlights of this year’s conference include author and caregiving expert Marty Richards, MSW, LICSW, speaking on “Keeping Hope and Heart Alive in Sharing Care” and “What’s Next After My Caregiver Journey Ends.” 

Richards is the author of Caresharing: A Reciprocal Approach to Caregiving and Care Receiving in the Complexities of Aging, Illness or Disability, has spent her career working in the community, in long term care facilities, and in institutions of higher learning.

In addition, AARP’s national family and caregiving expert Amy Goyer will discuss “Long-Distance Caregiving.” 

Additional presentations will include “Financial Planning for Caregivers” with elder law and estate planning attorney Virginia Sampson, “Caregiving for a Family Member in a Long-Term Care Community” with Pete Moreno, Managing Lead Ombudsman for the Area Agency on Aging for the Capital Area, and many more.

Registration for the “Striking a Balance” Caregiver Conference is free, and participants can register for as many sessions as they wish.
