Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training Center (ALERRT) kicked off their annual Active Shooter Conference on November 6.
The event aims to prepare the three disciplines of first responders—police, fire and EMS—for an active shooter situation.
The three-day conference hosts international instructors and presenters who will share “debriefs, best practices and lessons learned from the headline-grabbing national and international critical incidents.”
ALERRT Center at Texas State University was created to research and train first responders for an active shooter situation. The university built the center in 2002 in partnership with the Hays County Sheriff’s Office and San Marcos Police Department.
In 2013, the FBI named the facility the National Standard in Active Shooter Response Training. Today, FBI agents use ALERRT’s curriculum to train law enforcement agencies throughout the country.
The federal government has awarded the university over $56 million in state and federal grant funding. Since 2002, ALERRT has trained over 105,000 police officers from around the United States.
The conference will be held from Nov. 6 to Nov. 9 at Embassy Suites Hotel and Convention Center in San Marcos.
