Job Corps is a no-cost education and career technical training program administered by the U.S. Department of Labor that helps young people ages 16 to 24 improve the quality of their lives through career technical and academic training.
The Job Corps program is authorized by Title I-C of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014 (supersedes WIA 1998). For more information about the Job Corps program at a national level, please visit their Official Public Web Site.
Allied Universal Visits GJCC
Derrick Jackson, Regional Recruiter from Allied Universal got to visit the security trade at the Gary Job Corps Center on Thursday.
Mr. Jackson is looking to recruit qualified employees and encouraged students to apply for employment through their website.
Mr. Jackson spoke about what his company offered, some of the benefits the employees could expect, and about having security sites at Google, HEB, Tanger Outlet, and Amazon.
Allied Universal has previously employed Gary Job Corps graduates and has even placed some of them locally as security at Amazon.
Alumni Spotlight
Miguel started out working in minimum wage jobs and decided he wanted a better life so he went to Gary Job Corps in 2016 to pursue the means of getting a career.
After graduating, Miguel was employed and currently working with the City of Seguin as an overhead lineman in their Electrical Department. Miguel is now pursuing his journeyman’s license.
Miguel said that Gary Job Corps impacted his life in a positive way, they prepared him to be a better person and be more responsible. He also said they prepared him with the knowledge he now uses in his career.
Pastor James Jacobs from Word of Life in Buda, TX presented an appreciation award to the Gary Job Corps Center’s Student Government Association (SGA).
The SGA was appreciated for their donation and volunteer work with Hays Cares Shoes for Hope. Their donation and volunteer work made it possible for countless youth and families to hear a life changing message and it is because of them they were able to serve the needs of our community and improve the lives of others.
