An Individual In Custody Following Police Incident In Kyle

Kyle, TX Kyle Police Department is reporting that an earlier incident has been peacefully resolved and an individual is in police custody.

According to KPD Chief Jeff Barnett, at about 2:20 p.m., police responded to a burglary in progress in the 700 block of Fairway in the Plum Creek neighborhood. The homeowner, who was not inside at the time, was able to view an intruder via a security camera. She called police, who responded and surrounded the home.

“Our officers were able to determine the identity of the suspect and make contact with him by telephone,” Barnett said. “They determined the subject knew the homeowner and they were not dealing with a random illegal entry.”

He said that despite repeated attempts, the subject refused to exit the house for nearly three hours.

At approximately 5:13 p.m., Barnett said the individual was taken into police custody without incident and booked into the Hays County Jail on the following charges:

  • Burglary of a Habitation
  • Tampering with Evidence
  • A warrant for Felony Fraud Charges
  • (2nd) Warrant for Felony Fraud Charges

While the incident was taking place, Barnett said nearby residents were encouraged to shelter in place and the surrounding streets were closed as a precautionary measure.

“Once the individual was safely in custody, the area was reopened to traffic and the shelter in place advisory was lifted,” he said. “All units have since cleared from the scene.”

Barnett said he appreciated the community’s concerns and their willingness to cooperate with police directives during the incident.

“We understand situations of this nature can cause neighbors to be fearful,” he said. “It makes our job easier when residents take heed of our warnings, which are implemented to keep everyone safe.”
