Another Family Member Of Fatal Kyle Hit And Run Suspect Arrested; Vehicle Found

“We extend our thanks for the support from several law enforcement agencies involved in locating additional suspects and the vehicle in question,” Barnett said.

Kyle, TX – Kyle Police Department made another arrest in the case of a fatal hit and run.

Kevin Sean Deleon, 31, a nephew of Gilbert Villegas, 47, was charged with Tampering with Physical Evidence and False Report to a Peace Officer for his alleged part in covering up the crime for which Villegas was arrested in late June in the Houston area.

The brother of Villegas, Daniel Villegas, 50, was arrested last week and charged with Tampering with Physical Evidence.

John Lyon, 53, was riding his bike along the I-35 access road in Kyle when police believe Villegas hit him then fled the scene. A passing motorist saw his body in the grass.

KPD also confirmed they located the vehicle they believe Villegas was driving when he struck Lyon on May 27. It was discovered in a remote area of Comal County. Investigators used air surveillance, courtesy of Texas DPS Aviation Unit, to assist in the locating the Kia.

“Investigators were diligent in their efforts to locate Villegas, and arrest two of his family members for their involvement in covering up the hit and run,” Kyle Police Chief Jeff Barnett said. “Locating the vehicle was a key piece of the puzzle and now we have that as well.”

Barnett said officers were able to track down the Kia Optima in an out building on a large property in Comal County. He said the landowner, who is not related to Villegas, did not know the vehicle was hidden in his building. The Kia’s front bumper is missing, Barnett said.

“We extend our thanks for the support from several law enforcement agencies involved in locating additional suspects and the vehicle in question,” Barnett said. “I greatly appreciate the help and cooperation from Texas DPS Aviation Unit, Comal Co. Sheriff’s Office, the Texas Rangers, Hays County Sheriff’s Office and San Marcos Police Department.”

He again thanked the Gulf Coast Violent Offender Task Force (in the Houston area), the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force (in the Central Texas area) and the US Marshal’s Office, for helping KPD locate and arrest Villegas.

Deleon was already in Hays County Jail on an unrelated matter when Kyle Police served him with the arrest warrants.
