Art Squared To Hold Last Art Market Of The Year

Posted  by Staff | @CorridorNews | @Corridor_Sports

Art Squared will hold its last Art Market of the year on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2014 at the Downtown Square in San Marcos from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  As the holiday season approaches, the community is invited to support local artists who offer creative, hand crafted artwork.

Rene Perez of San Marcos will be this month’s featured artist. He is influenced by his surrounding community and enjoys sharing his love of the city through his work. Rene captures scenes of the San Marcos River, the parks, downtown, and even Ralph, the swimming pig of the famed Aquarena Springs.

He is also inspired by his family, his cats and all the inhabitants of the San Marcos River.  Although Rene has not had any formal training in painting and only started his craft seven years ago, his style of work is unique, colorful, and captivating. In addition to his paintings in oil and acrylic, he also draws in ink and shows a great eye for photography in his pictures. To learn more about Rene, read his artist statement and view his body of work at www.jreneperez.com, or stop by and visit with Rene and all the other artists.

There will be a variety of art mediums including fiber arts, jewelry, paintings, pottery, stained glass, sculpture, and other types of original art along with live music. The music begins at 1:15 p.m. with AJ Downing, Missoula Slim, and Matt Amos. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy the day with music and art. Information regarding the musicians can be viewed at http://artsquaredsmtx.com.

Art Squared is also pleased to host Family 4 Life as the featured nonprofit organization during the event. Family 4 Life is dedicated to strengthening family connections through reunification, education and support-fostering family relationships that last a lifetime. Camp Family 4 Life and Family Field Trips are two of their programs. Additional information may be found on their website at www.family4life.org.

Artists interested in participating in future Art Squared Art Market events may visit the Art Squared website at http://artsquaredsmtx.com or contact Jennifer Mach at artsquaredsmtx@gmail.com for an application.

The Art Squared Advisory Committee is composed of community artists, art advocates, two Arts Commission members, and one City of San Marcos Parks and Recreation staff member.

About the San Marcos Arts Commission:  The San Marcos Arts Commission promotes tourism to San Marcos and enriches the city’s diverse cultural heritage by supporting works of artistic excellence, advancing arts education and strengthening the arts in the community.
