Austin Music Nonprofit Black Fret, The Long Center To Present Free For All-Ages Summer Concert Series

Music nonprofit Black Fret announces their partnership with the Long Center for the Black Fret Summer Sessions, a concert series celebrating local music in the heart of Austin, with free public admission.

This concert series includes at least four Black Fret acts per event, with great food and drink to complement incredible local music on the lawn of the Long Center.

The next Summer Session will take place Friday, July 19 at the Long Center’s H-E-B Terrace (701 W. Riverside Dr. Austin, Texas 78704), and will feature Jaimee Harris, a Sydney Wright, Graham Wilkinson & Kalu James trio, Superfonicos and Trouble In The Streets.

The event doors will open at 5 PM with music running from 6 to 10 PM and will be ASL-interpreted; for more information, full details and RSVP can be found here. The next event in the series will take place Friday, Sept. 6, with the line up to be announced.

The first Black Fret Summer Session took place on June 7 and featured performers included Akina Adderley, Carson McHone, Swimming with Bears and Bright Light Social Hour. For more on Black Fret and the Summer Sessions, see www.blackfret.org. 

“Black Fret believes local music is art that deserves the support of the community,” said Matt Ott, Black Fret Co-founder. “To feature artists who have received Black Fret grants (or who will at our Black Fret Ball on Dec. 7) outside at the Long Center, the home of our city’s opera, ballet and more just feels right. Austin loves it’s art and highlighting it with our beautiful skyline as a backdrop creates some real magic.”

For the Black Fret Summer Sessions, chairs and blankets are welcome on the Long Center lawn along with empty, reusable water bottles. Long Center and Black Fret Members are invited to the Members’ Hangout, located under West Pincer with access to the upper terrace, a shaded area, cold beverages and snacks, plus VIP lawn area space and more.
