Austin PD Looking For Vehicle Hit & Run Kills 3 Year Old

The preliminary investigation shows that an early 2000s model Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD pickup truck was at the intersection of westbound Briarcliff and Cameron Rd. waiting to turn southbound on Cameron Rd. The Chevrolet turned onto Cameron Rd. striking four-year-old Ethan Hernandez. Ethan was legally walking in the crosswalk with family members and had the right of way when he was hit by the truck. The driver of the Chevrolet fled the scene.

Ethan was transported to Dell Children’s Hospital where he was pronounced deceased a short time later.

APD is seeking the public’s assistance in locating the driver of the Chevrolet Silverado. Photos of the actual suspect vehicle are below. Additionally, the truck is possibly missing a rear brake light.

This case is still being investigated. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the APD Vehicular Homicide Unit Detectives at (512) 974-6935. This is Austin’s 26th fatal traffic crash and the 26th fatality of 2016.

These statements are based on the initial assessment of the fatal crash and investigation is still pending. Fatality information may change.
