The Austin Police Department, along with the Austin Police Association and Austin Cops for Charities, are honoring several APD Officers for their heroic achievements at the 2016 Distinguished Awards Gala on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at 6 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Austin.
The Gala will honor the men and women who continuously put their lives in harm’s way to ensure a safer Austin. More than 700 police officers, their families and community leaders will come together to recognize the officers, who have exhibited valor and bravery in times of peril. Awards to be presented include the Medal of Valor, Meritorious Service, Life Saving, Patrol Unit of the Year and Unit of the Year. Citizens will also be recognized with the Chief’s Award of Excellence, the Community Partner Recognition Award and the Youth Civic Leadership Award.
Austin music legend Bob Schneider will entertain Gala attendees after the awards ceremony. APD Detective Jarrett Crippen will serve as Master of Ceremonies for the evening, with a special keynote address from APD Chief of Police Art Acevedo.
“I take great pride in leading the men and women who serve the Austin Police Department,” said Chief Acevedo. “Day after day, they exhibit can-do attitudes, genuine concern for making Austin a better place to live and bravery in the face of danger. I could not be prouder of not only these men and women we are recognizing with Distinguished Leadership Awards, but of the entire department.”Presenting sponsors for the event include the Austin Police Association, Reagan National Advertising, the Austin Police Department, Austin Cops for Charities and Panasonic.
