UPDATE: Austin Police reported the missing child is now in custody.
Austin Police Department Detectives are seeking the public’s assistance in locating 3-week old baby boy Elijah Phillips. After checking into a local hospital under a false name, Brittany Sadi Smith, 30, gave birth to Elijah on Friday, July 19, 2019.
Brittany gave permission for the baby to leave the hospital on Monday, July 22, 2019, with a family member, believed to be the cousin, Brandy Yovonne Galbert, 41.
Baby Elijah has not been seen since. On Wednesday, July 24, 2019, Child Protective Investigations (CPI) received a court order for Elijah to be removed from the mother’s custody and placed into theirs.
According to officials, they are looking for the mother, Smith, Galbert and the father, Carl Dennis Hayden, Jr., 37.
Smith is described as 5’2″ woman and 220 lbs; she has black hair, brown eyes and a tattoo on her left arm.
Galbert is described as 5’06” woman and 140 lbs; she has black hair and brown eyes. Hayden is a 5’10” with black hair and brown eyes. All three are described as African American.
Officials said Galbert is believed to be driving a gold 2007 Pontiac Torrent with a Texas issued license plate, KNN7632.
The three people listed above have not been located and are possibly in the Austin or Killeen area, presumably with the baby. Detectives and CPI are concerned for the child’s safety and well-being.
Anyone with information about baby Elijah’s whereabouts is asked to call 9-1-1 immediately or the North Austin Detectives at 512-974-5484 or call Crime Stoppers at 512-472-TIPS or text “Tip 103” + a message to CRIMES or use the new Crime Stoppers App. Residents can also submit tips by downloading APD’s mobile app, Austin PD, for free on iPhone and Android.
