Austin Police Seeking Information, Video Footage In Fatal Shooting

Austin Police Detectives are asking anyone with video or information about this incident to call APD Homicide. On Saturday, June 20, 2020, around 4:33 a.m., the Austin Police Department (APD) received multiple calls regarding shots fired in the 3800 block of Alexandria Drive.

APD officers arrived on the scene and located David Dunn with significant trauma that included a gunshot wound.

Austin-Travis County EMS arrived on the scene to attend to him. At the time, Mr. Dunn still had a heartbeat, but succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced deceased on the scene at 5 a.m.

Homicide detectives and crime scene specialists responded to process the scene. Detectives, who have identified most of the individuals involved, also recovered video from the scene that includes extensive footage of the event. Investigators are continuing to look for others who may have been involved or were on the scene and witnessed the incident.

Detectives learned early on in the investigation that Mr. Dunn collapsed on the street after being shot at which time the juvenile female got into Mr. Dunn’s vehicle, announced her intention to run him over, and then deliberately did so.

The juvenile female was arrested and originally charged with aggravated assault. That has since been upgraded to murder based on the official ruling from the Office of the Travis County Medical Examiner. The juvenile suspect is currently being held in the Gardner Betts Juvenile Center.

The Medical Examiner ruled on July 1, 2020, that the cause of Mr. Dunn’s death was a gunshot wound with a contributing factor of blunt trauma from being run over by the vehicle. The manner of death is homicide.

Detectives are asking anyone with video or information about this incident to call APD Homicide at 512-974-TIPS (8477), Crime Stoppers at 512-472-TIPS (8477) or email APD Homicide at homicide.apd@austintexas.gov. You may remain anonymous.
