Austin city officials released a corridor construction outline that proposes spending $100 million on two heavily-traveled streets. This idea is part of the $1.4 billion Corridor Mobility Plan proposed in December.

The outline calls for spending $84.8 million to build up to four miles of bike lanes on East Riverside Drive from Interstate 35 to State Highway 71. The street would also receive new lighting, traffic signal improvements, sidewalk repairs and road resurfacing.

The proposal also calls for spending $19.8 million to make Nueces Street a two-way street, repair sidewalks, add more street lights on Guadalupe and 24th streets, repurpose two lanes on 24th Street to create bike and center turn lanes and improve traffic signs at three major intersections. Council members expect to vote on the proposal in March.

If approved, work on the two corridor projects could begin next year.
