Need To Know Road Closures For US 183

 

SHORT TERM

LANE CLOSURE | Monday through Thursday (5/21-24) and Tuesday through Friday (5/29-6/1) from 9 am to 4 pm, the US 183 southbound frontage road will be reduced by one lane from US 290 to Manor/Springdale Road.

ROAD CLOSURE | Tuesday (5/29) from 8 pm to 12 am, the US 183 northbound mainlanes will be closed at MLK Jr., Blvd; then, from 1 am to 6 am, the US 183 southbound mainlanes will be closed at MLK Jr., Blvd. For both closures, traffic will detour by exiting for MLK Jr., Blvd, traveling through the intersection and taking the entrance ramp for US 183.

ROAD CLOSURE | Wednesday through Friday (5/30-6/1) from 8 pm to 6 am, southbound US 183 at SH 71 will be closed. All southbound traffic will detour by exiting for westbound SH 71, taking the u-turn at E. Riverside Drive, and heading eastbound on SH 71 to the US 183 southbound exit. Expect Delays. If traveling to the airport, plan ahead. On Thursday (5/31) from 8 pm to 6 am, the SH 71 westbound ramp to US 183 southbound ramp will be closed. Detour at the E. Riverside Drive U-turn.

ROAD CLOSURE | Wednesday through Thursday (5/30-31) from 8 pm to 6 am and Friday (6/1) from 8 pm to 10 am, the US 183 southbound mainlanes will be closed under MLJ Jr., Blvd. All traffic will detour by exiting for MLK Jr., Blvd, traveling through the intersection and taking the entrance ramp for southbound US 183. On Wednesday (5/30) from 8 pm to 6 am, MLK Jr., Blvd will be closed in both directions over US 183. Eastbound traffic will detour on US 183 to turn around at TechniCenter Drive; westbound traffic will detour on US 183 to turn around at 51st Street. Expect delays.

RAMP CLOSURE | Thursday (5/31) from 8 pm to 6 am, southbound 7th Street and Airport Blvd will be closed at US 183 and the Colorado River. For traffic wishing to reach the US 183 southbound mainlanes, follow traffic detour to Cesar Chavez/1st Street to reach the Montopolis Truss Bridge. If traveling to the airport, plan ahead.

LONG TERM

ROAD CLOSURE | Continuously from Monday (4/16/2018) at 9 am to Monday (4/1/2019) at 5 pm, Smith Road, west of US 183, and Thurgood Avenue will be closed at the US 183 southbound mainlanes. Follow signed detours.

ROAD CLOSURE | Continuously from Saturday, April 28, at 11 am, to Friday, June 29, at 6 am, eastbound Vargas Road will be closed at US 183. Vargas traffic heading to US 183 northbound will detour via Ponca Street and Montopolis Drive to US 183. Vargas traffic heading to US southbound will take westbound Vargas Street to Riverside Drive and head south to SH 71 eastbound, then take the US southbound ramp.

ROAD CLOSURE | Starting April 25, 2017, and lasting till late December 2018, Central Avenue and Bluestein Drive are temporarily closed at their intersections with northbound US 183 for utility work. Traffic is being detoured via Techni Center Drive and Semi-Conductor Drive.

ROAD CLOSURE | Continuously between Friday June 5, 2017 at 8 pm to late December 2018, Levander Loop will be closed at the US 183 northbound turnaround. Follow the signed detour.

ROAD CLOSURE | Continuously from Saturday, January 13, 2017, at 7 am, to late December 2018, at 6 am, Tracor Lane and Marcel Gress will be closed at US 183.

LANE CLOSURE | Continuously from Friday (8/17/2017) at 8 pm to late December 2018, 51st Street on the west side of US 183 will be reduced to one lane in both directions between US 183 and Hutchinson Drive.

The Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority (CTRMA) is an independent government agency created in 2002 to improve the transportation system in Williamson and Travis counties.

According to their website, their mission is “to implement innovative, multi-modal transportation solutions that reduce congestion and create transportation choices that enhance quality of life and economic vitality.”

The Mobility Authority was created and operates under the Texas Transportation Code Chapter 370 and is authorized under state law to implement a wide range of transportation systems including roadways, airports, seaports and transit services.

The Mobility Authority is authorized to issue revenue bonds to fund projects and can utilize user fees and/or taxes to fund operations and repay bonds.
