On Tuesday, June 19, the City of Austin announced the date for Police Chief Brian Manley’s official Oath of Office ceremony.

Manley’s appointment comes after over a year serving as the city’s interim police chief. In March, he led the investigation alongside the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives of the serial bombings in Austin.

The City of Austin announced Manley was the lone finalist for the position in April.

Over the past month, Chief Manley participated in two televised town halls and met with various public safety stakeholders. The City of Austin hired GovHR USA to compile a report of all of the public feedback and facilitate interview panels.

On June 14, the Austin City Council approved the appointment of Manley as the city’s new permanent police chief. Manley is due to be sworn in on June 22 around 4:30 PM.

The swearing-in will be administered by the Honorable Cliff Brown, 147th Criminal District Court Judge.

The ceremony will begin with Presentation of the Colors by the APD’s Honor Guard and Pipe and Drum Corps. The National Anthem will be performed by APD Officer Jelani Johnson.
