Austin’s Classic Canines Is Hosting A City-Wide Effort To “Save Our Seniors”

Free adoption event for dogs, age 7 and up, Saturday, June 10, at three local shelters

Austin’s Classic Canines is hosting a city-wide effort to “Save Our Seniors,” a free adoption event for dogs, age 7 and up, Saturday, June 10, at three local shelters.

“Many senior dogs have known just one home throughout their lifetime,” said Jean Hubrath, coordinator for the non-profit Classic Canines. “For these older dogs, it is very stressful to be suddenly thrust into the shelter system at a time in their lives when they are not as resilient as young dogs. These older dogs are greatly affected by changes in routine, hard surfaces, climate changes and overall stress. All of which makes it easier for them to fall ill. Our goal is to move them back into loving foster or adoptive homes quickly, with the least number of stops along the way.”

All adoption fees will be waived, and adoptive parents will be given a package of donated products and services.

“Save Our Seniors” will be held Saturday at the following locations.

Austin Animal Center, Austin Pets Alive! Austin Humane Society as follows:

  • Austin Animal Center, 7201 Levander Loop, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Austin Human Society, 124 W. Anderson Lane, noon to 7 p.m.

Austin Pets Alive! at its two locations:

  • 1156 Cesar Chavez, 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • 3118 Windsor Road, noon to 7 p.m.
