Son of a Sailor, a prominent handmade business from Austin, is opening their new production studio and boutique storefront in Downtown San Marcos. With an existing East Austin location, the San Marcos storefront will be Son of a Sailor’s second location, offering their eponymous full line of handmade accessories for men, women, home, and pet. Alongside Son of a Sailor’s own merchandise will be an array of curated goods from other exciting design-driven brands.
In a sea of movers and makers in Austin, Son of a Sailor has carved a name for its products by combining thought-provoking geometric shapes and patterns with raw and inviting combinations of natural and industrial materials. From hand-painted leather goods made from vegetable tanned US leather to hand-forged metal jewelry, Son of a Sailor offers modern goods in a variety of mediums.
Their new space, at 241 N. LBJ Dr., boasts an open 1,000 square foot studio where you’ll find Son of a Sailor employees hammering, cutting, and painting, fronted by a 400 square foot boutique. The storefront has been designed to showcase the production of their own line, as well as a unique, modern shopping experience for San Marcos patrons.
Like their flagship Austin storefront, Son of a Sailor hopes to become the preeminent stop for those in search of unique goods with a rich story. Bringing well-designed, quality goods to San Marcos from local and national brands, Son of a Sailor offers a unique shopping experience in their new home.
Doors to their new San Marcos location will be opening to the public on April 19th, 2018. The Grand Opening party invites people into Son of a Sailor’s creative space, allowing all of San Marcos to get an inside glimpse of where the magic happens. Join them in celebrating their move to San Marcos with boozy snow cones, temporary tattoos, music, dancing, and general hoopla!
“We are William Knopp and Jessica Tata, the husband and wife team behind Son of a Sailor. The birth of the brand is inextricably tied to our own relationship–when we first met and began designing together, Son of a Sailor was the organic result,” according to their website under “Our Story.”
“Much of the inspiration behind our handmade jewelry and accessories comes from the application of color, pattern, and geometry to materials with a rich history and story. We embrace the convergence of innovation, functionality, storytelling, and bright, bold geometry in all of our designs.”
