Baylor Scott & White Health CEO Named To Modern Healthcare’s List Of The 100 Most Influential People In Healthcare

Baylor Scott and White was the only health system leader from Texas to be included on the 2018 list.

On the heels of Baylor Scott & White Health being recognized as the Most Awarded Healthcare System in Texas by U.S. News & World Report, Chief Executive Officer Jim Hinton has been named once again by Modern Healthcare to its annual list of the 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare.

At No. 30, Jim is the only leader of a Texas-based healthcare provider to be included on the list this year.

The reasons cited by the publication include Baylor Scott & White’s efforts to reduce costs, standardize processes and drive innovation, which led to $32 million in savings for total joint and cardiovascular services.

“We are extremely proud of this recognition of Jim’s extraordinary leadership in this time of great change in the industry,” said Ross McKnight, chairman of the Baylor Scott & White Holdings Board.  “In the past year, Jim has led the development of a new strategy for the system focused on delivering higher value, more affordable healthcare with a better experience.  His inclusion on this list is fitting as he is driving change from which millions of Texans will benefit.”

A recognized leader with more than two decades of CEO experience, Hinton has led Baylor Scott & White since 2017. Prior to his time in Texas, he was CEO of Presbyterian Healthcare Services, a private, not-for-profit healthcare system in New Mexico — the largest in the state.

Hinton is also recognized nationally for his exceptional leadership in the community. He served on the Board of Trustees of the American Hospital Association from 2011 through 2015.

In 2014, he was the chair of the organization that represents nearly 5,000 hospitals, healthcare systems, networks and other providers of care through advocacy and public policy.

He holds a master’s degree in healthcare administration from Arizona State University and a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of New Mexico.

The complete ranking is a main feature in this week’s issue (August 20) of Modern Healthcare magazine, and a feature article and profiles of the winners are available at ModernHealthcare.com/100MostInfluential.

In its seventeenth year, the recognition program acknowledges and honors individuals who are deemed by their peers and the senior editors of Modern Healthcare to be the most influential individuals in the industry, in terms of leadership and impact.
