Baylor Scott & White Health held the ribbon cutting for their San Marcos clinic on Wednesday, October 3.

The new clinic, which is located on Wonder World Drive across from Central Texas Medical Center, opened its doors in July 2018.

Jason Mock, President of the San Marcos Chamber of Commerce, welcomed guests.

Mock said Baylor Scott & White has grown to one of the largest healthcare systems after Baylor Healthcare and Scott & White Healthcare merged in 2013.

According to Mock, the company has 49 hospitals, 5,500 active physicians and 44,000 employees.

“On a local level, Baylor Scott and White’s focus is on keeping communities like ours healthy with preventive care, innovation and technology,” Mock said.

This location expands access to high-quality, coordinated Baylor Scott & White primary and specialty care for area residents.

The clinic’s services include family medicine, pediatric gastroenterology and adult neurosurgery, as well as convenient access to diagnostic X-ray and laboratory services.

Jay Fox, President of Baylor Scott & White for the Austin-RoundRock Region, said the San Marcos Clinic is the furthest south BS&W goes at present, and in the very near future, the Baylor Scott & White will be opening a hospital and new clinic in Buda.

However, the healthcare system announced Tuesday the intent to merge with Memorial Hermann in Houston.

“We couldn’t have a clinic if we didn’t have our team,” Fox said. “So, we are really fortunate to have a really great, incredible team in this region that helps us get our clinics open and helps us get them open really quickly and very timely.”

The new location is Baylor Scott & White’s largest clinic south of Austin. The clinic joins more than 30 Baylor Scott & White facilities spanning Travis, Williamson, and Hays counties to provide for care for Central Texans.

“We’re excited to be here in San Marcos,” said Dr. Rachel McGinnis, family medicine physician, Baylor Scott & White Clinic – San Marcos.

The Baylor Scott & White model provides greater care coordination using a single electronic medical record that allows hospital and clinic teams to work together seamlessly.

Dr. McGinnis said among the many services, the clinic will also provide EKGs and physical therapy.

“We continue to focus on preventive care with routine wellness visits, immunizations and also incorporate intense chronic disease management,” McGinnis said. “Personally, my goal is to provide personalized, comprehensive medical care using evidence based recommendations but also creating personal relationships with each patient.”

“We look forward to many, many years working together and helping to make San Marcos a better place to live, work and play,” Mock said.
