Bobcat Soccer Drops Heartbreaker In Double Overtime VS Ladyjacks, More Over Weekend

Bobcats Score Late, Plays to 1-1 Draw at HBU 

HOUSTON – Freshman Alana Clark scored her first collegiate goal with just over two minutes left in regulation to tie the match.

The Texas State soccer team (0-1-1) would go on to draw 1-1 against Houston Baptist (0-0-1) Sunday night at Sorrells Field that started 35 minutes later than planned due to lightning in the area. 

In the eighth minute, Mackenzie Smith took a hard crack at goal after a cross in from the right side. The Huskies’ goalkeeper was able to parry the ball away for corner kick. 

Trinity Clark had a similar look as Smith in the 25th minute but saw her shot caught by the keeper. 

Last good look of the first half for the Bobcats came from Haley Shaw. During the 36th minute, the freshman cut towards the top of the box beating her defender, and unleashed a shot off her left foot. The defender was able to recover just in time to deflect the attempt with her foot. 

HBU broke the scoreless match in the 50th minute. Tayah Reynolds sent in a corner kick from the far corner and the ball found the head of a leaping Kat Lazor. Her header bounced off the right post and past the goal line. 

Wimberley Wright almost knotted the score as she received a pass at the top of the box, turned, and buried the ball into the right corner. However, the refs ruled her as being offsides before getting the pass to negate the score. 

Time was ticking down in the second half as Shaw drove down the left side. She sent in a cross that saw the goalkeeper come out to corral the ball but instead slightly deflecting it.

A. Clark beat an oncoming defender to the ball and knocked it into the back of the net to tie the match 1-1 with just over two minutes left in regulation. 

In the second overtime period, Emma Jones had a look from the inside box but the ball scooted just past the outside of the right post. 

The Huskies had the last good look of the contest late in the 107th minute. A long attempt by Ryan Ford saw Beth Agee making a diving save that kept the match tied. 

Pacing the Bobcats with two shots apiece were Kiara Gonzales, A. Clark and Jones. 

In net, Agee recorded nine saves to give her 16 over the first two matches. It is the most saves by a TXST keeper in the first two contests of a season since 2002 when Kristen Tutt made 19. 

Next up for Texas State is Lamar on Friday at 7 p.m. at the Bobcat Soccer Complex. It is the first of a four-match homestand over the next two weekends.

Bobcats Drop Heartbreaker In Double Overtime To Ladyjacks

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State soccer team (0-1-0) saw Stephen F. Austin (1-0-0) score two tough goals with the second coming with nine seconds left in the second overtime of a 2-1 setback during the Bobcats’ annual Teal Match Friday night at the Bobcat Soccer Complex. 

For nearly the first 15 minutes, it was a stalemate as both teams shock off the rust. Mackenzie Smith recorded the first shot attempt of the season with a header almost a third of the way through the first half. 

In the 17th minute, Trinity Clark attempted to pass to Sydney Kammer sprinting down the middle of the field near the 18-yard box.

A Ladyjack defender knocked the ball back to Clark, who laid it off for Emma Jones. The Hutto, Texas native followed by bending the shot into the right corner of the goal for her first career goal and give the Bobcats a 1-0 advantage. 

With just over two minutes left in the first half, an attempted clearance by an SFA defender hit Wimberley Wright and allowed a breakaway for the freshman.

She smashed a shot past the goalkeeper but the score was whistled back by the ref for a handball. 

The Ladyjacks answered back after an unsuccessful clearance late in the 64th minute. The ball found its way to Carli Arthurs at the top of the penalty box. Her crack on goal hit the bottom of the crossbar and bounced in to tie the match 1-1. 

Nearly four minutes into the first overtime, Arthurs nearly ended the match. An attempt from 25-yards out off her left foot was pushed just over the bar by Beth Agee. 

TXST had two great opportunities to end the contest in the 98th minute. She received a pass from Jones near the top of the 18-yard box and got off an attempt between three defenders.

Her shot unfortunately hit off the crossbar. Smith was there for the follow up but the ball ricocheted off her right to the keeper on the ground. 

With 11 seconds remaining, Destiny Davis had a breakaway opportunity that Agee was able to breakup. However, the ball bounced to Katelyn Termini who knocked the ball into the net for the golden goal. 

Both Kammer and Smith led the Bobcats with three shots apiece and placed three and two on goal, respectively. Attempting two shots apiece were Kiara Gonzales, Renny Moore, Jones and Wright. 

Agee made seven saves in her first collegiate start between the posts.
