Bobcat Volleyball Hits The Court For Preseason Training

“We are excited to be back on the court and practicing. We have a long way to go, but we are very pleased with how far we’ve come in just the first few days of practice,” TXST coach Karen Chisum said.

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State volleyball team is currently in its first full week of preseason practice.

The Bobcats began training for the upcoming 2018 season on Aug. 11 and will travel to Dallas on Aug. 16 for a 5:30 p.m. exhibition against SMU.

“We are excited to be back on the court and practicing. We have a long way to go, but we are very pleased with how far we’ve come in just the first few days of practice,” TXST coach Karen Chisum said. “We have a lot of new faces out there, and we forgot that we still have to teach these freshmen how to work every single point. But we’re getting closer to where we want to be.”

Following the SMU match, Texas State will hit the practice gym for another week of preparation before finally kicking off the regular season at the Hampton Inn & Suite Waco North Baylor Invitational Aug. 24-25. The Bobcats will face Marquette on Aug. 24 before meeting host Baylor and LSU on Aug. 25. The home portion of the schedule is slated to begin Aug. 30-Sept. 1 with the annual Creeds & Crests Classic. Patrons will be treated to matches featuring UTSA, James Madison, Incarnate Word and Abilene Christian.

Texas State was projected to win the Sunbelt Conference Championship in the 2018 preseason coaches’ poll. The Bobcats landed four student-athletes on the preseason all-conference team, headlined by Sun Belt Preseason Defensive Player of the Year Micah Dinwiddie. The junior was joined by seniors Madison Daigle, Amy Pflughaupt and Megan Porter on the all-conference squad.

TXST finished 25-10 last season and captured the Sun Belt West Division title with a 14-2 record. The maroon and gold competed in the 2017 National Invitational Volleyball Championship and earned the first postseason victory in school history.

All season tickets for the 2018 campaign are general admission and are on sale now for $40. Special groups such as Bobcat Club donors, Texas State faculty and staff, recent alumni (2014-18) and T-Association members can receive a special discounted rate of $30 per season ticket.

Fans can renew their seats by logging into their online account at txstatebobcats.com/tickets, calling the Athletic Ticket Office at 512-245-2272, or by visiting the Athletic Ticket Office at Bobcat Stadium during normal business hours (M-F, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.).
