Bobcats And Mavericks To Battle

The 2017-18 men’s and women’s basketball season will feature an 18-game conference slate with men’s and women’s basketball games played as doubleheaders.

New OrleansOn Tuesday, the Sun Belt Conference announced that ESPN2 will air two Friday night men’s basketball rivalry showdowns during the stretch run of conference play. Texas State’s regular season finale in Strahan Coliseum against UTA was one of the contests and will be played on Friday, March 2 at 6 p.m. CT in front of a national audience.

It will be the second time in the last three years that the Bobcats home game against the Mavericks will air on ESPN2. The game will be TXST’s fourth to air on the network in head coach Danny Kaspar’s tenure.

The all-time series between the two programs has UTA holding a 36-32 edge. Last season, the Bobcats won the season series for the first time since the 2008-09 season, capped off with an 83-62 victory in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament semifinals.

In addition, ESPN has selected Friday, Dec. 29 as its men’s basketball wild card game day. The network will select a game to air on ESPN2 at 6 p.m. CT at minimum 22 days prior to Dec. 29. The games available for selection are:

•         Georgia Southern at Troy

•         Georgia State at South Alabama

•         Louisiana at Little Rock

•         Texas State at Appalachian State

•         ULM at Arkansas State
