It’s that time of year again!
SAN MARCOS, Texas – The first action for the 2017 Texas State soccer team will take the squad to San Antonio to take on I-35 rival UTSA in an exhibition match. The contest will kickoff at 7 p.m. at the Park West Athletics Complex.
Returning for the Bobcats are 15 letterwinners led by senior captains Elizabeth Havenhill and Kassi Hormuth. Hormuth led the team last season with 48 shots and 21 shots on goal. Her three goals, three assists and nine points were tied for the most by a TXST player last season.
Also netting three goals in 2016 and back for this campaign is Rachel Grout. The midfielder also was credited with two assists. Alyssa Phelan netted three assists, two coming in a 3-1 victory against Georgia State, last season to tie for the team lead.
Goalkeepers Kathryn Budde and Heather Martin will both get a chance to showcase their skills while battling for the top spot on the depth chart.
Martin appeared in 17 games last season, starting 15 of them, while finishing with a 1.10 GAA, 79.2 save percentage and 61 saves. Budde recorded a 0.44 GAA, 87.5 save percentage and 14 saves in seven matches.
The Roadrunners return 17 letterwinners for last year’s team that finished 7-12 overall and 3-7 in Conference USA. They were picked to finish 10th in the 14-team league.
UTSA brings back three of its top four goal scorers including Kaja Skare, who paced the team with seven goals and 17 points. Jordyn Lacy netted five goals and dished out a team-high five assists while Katieann Lochte scored four times.
