Bobcats Fall in Defensive Stalemate 45-43

SAN MARCOS, Texas –

Much like the first meeting between Texas State and Georgia Southern, points came at a premium Thursday night with the Eagles edging the Bobcats by a slight margin 45-43 at Strahan Coliseum.

Both teams struggled from the field, with Georgia Southern shooting 16-of-48 for 33.3 percent while the Bobcats shot 32.1 percent on 17-of-53. The three-point line was not any kinder to the teams, with the Eagles making just 22 percent (5-of-22) and the Bobcats just nine percent (1-of-11).

One of the bright spots offensively for Texas State was JaMarcus Weatherspoon who had a game-high 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting. He had the team’s biggest basket, with a layup in the final minutes to tie the game at 43-43.

Unfortunately, the tie didn’t last long as the Eagles got an offensive rebound on their next trip down and scored the final basket for the 45-43 final.

Texas State battled back from an early deficit, after Georgia Southern took a 14-4 lead. The Bobcats responded right back to cut the lead to 14-12 after Weatherspoon and Cameron Naylorattacked the basket. Naylor finished the night as the team’s second leading scorer with 12 points and eight rebounds.

The Bobcats will continue its current three-game home stand on Saturday afternoon at 4:30 p.m., when it takes on Appalachian State. Saturday’s game will be televised on KBVO and also be available on radio on 89.9 FM KTSW and online at www.txstatebocats.com/radio.
