JONESBORO, Ark. – The Texas State men’s basketball team lost in overtime for the first time this season, falling 78-73 to Arkansas State, Saturday night in Jonesboro, Ark.
Down 66-63 the Bobcats worked the clock down and D.J. Brown found Wes Davis in the right corner for a three-pointer, his second of the night to tie the game at 66-66. The Red Wolves had a chance to win the game in regulation but the attempts were missed, forcing the Bobcats’ third overtime game of the season.
Arkansas State came out in overtime on a 6-0 run to take the 72-66 lead. Ethan Montalvoanswered the call, hitting back-to-back three-pointers, to tie the game at 72-72. Unfortunately the Red Wolves hit free throws down the stretch and the Bobcats missed the rest of their shots in the final two minutes.
Montalvo finished the game with a team-high 18 points on 4-of-9 from three-point range.JaMarcus Weatherspoon aided the team defensively with a career-high nine rebounds to go along with eight points.
Cameron Naylor helped the Bobcats to a 33-26 lead at halftime, following his seven first half points. He finished with 15 for the Bobcats.
The Bobcats will complete their two-game road trip, on Monday at 7:15 p.m.., against UT Arlington. Monday’s game will be available on radio on 89.9 FM KTSW and online at www.txstatebocats.com/radio.
