(Steven Carlos Herenandez has been arrested in connection with the Gotta Habit shooting)

The following is a press release sent out by the City of San Marcos:

San Marcos Police have made an arrest in the September 21st robbery of Gotta Habit Smoke Shop.

San Marcos Police Detectives obtained an arrest warrant on Thursday, September 25, 2014 charging Steven Carlos Hernandez (DOB 08/05/1994) with Aggravated Robbery.

Hernandez was arrested without incident Thursday evening in the 2300 block of Clovis Barker Road in San Marcos by members of the Hays County/San Marcos SWAT team. Hernandez is currently incarcerated at the Hays County Law Enforcement Center.

The San Marcos Police Department received a call at 6:16 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21 reporting a man had been shot at the Gotta Habit Smoke Shop, located at 700 N. LBJ #113.

The suspect entered the store brandishing a pistol and was confronted by the victim, 25-year-old Patrick William Reilly. Reilly grappled with Hernandez and was shot in the chest during the robbery, according to police.

Police believe Hernandez then fled the scene on foot. He was armed with a pistol and was last seen running toward the Treehouse Apartments on N. LBJ Drive.

Officers from multiple agencies and a K-9 unit responded to the area, but were unable to locate the suspect.

This investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may be filed as detectives continue to evaluate the evidence.
