BREAKING: Body Discovered In The San Marcos River

City of San Marcos & Texas State University Report

Texas State University Police are investigating after the body of a 29-year-old man was found around 8:00 a.m. in the San Marcos River.

The man’s friends reported him missing around midnight after a night of swimming in the river.  Dive teams searched for him overnight but were unable to locate him.

A swimmer discovered a man’s body tangled in Texas wild rice this morning and alerted police. San Marcos Fire Department and San Marcos Park Rangers assisted. An autopsy is pending.

The victim’s name is being withheld until next of kin has been notified. Texas State Police Department is the lead agency in the investigation.

Access to the river in Sewell Park from Aquarena Springs Drive to the pedestrian bridge was closed to the public until 11 a.m.
