The Hays County Sheriff’s Office is assisting with a restaurant fire that occurred this date at 1:55 a.m.

The Wimberley Fire Department was dispatched to the 300 block of the Wimberley Square in Wimberley, Texas for a report of a structure fire.

Upon arrival, firefighters observed flames exiting the alley windows of the Cypress Creek Café and Buzzard Bar.

Mutual aid was requested and the South Hays Fire Department, San Marcos Fire Department, Kyle Fire Department, and the North Hays Fire Department responded to assist.

Firefighters entered the structure to contain the fire but within four minutes, a large explosion caused the firefighters to withdraw and take up defensive positions to fight the fire.

The owners of the restaurant lived on the second floor of the structure and were awaken by smoke detectors.

Both were able to flee the structure but their two cats and a dog were lost in the fire.

The fire was finally contained at approximately 4:30 a.m.

Over thirty five firefighters were on scene and no injuries were reported by first responders.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation and the estimated loss of the structure is valued at approximately $750,000 dollars.
