On Saturday, November 10, 2018 the Austin Police Department bomb unit, along with the ATF Field Office from the Austin area assisted Kyle Police Department on a suspicious package call.
Once rendered safe, it was determined the device was a mock TSA training device that was inadvertently sold to a private citizen at a government surplus store.
To date, APD has been able to determine the mock training devices may have been located in crock pots and printers in a box (model: E709-A Hewlett Packard) sold at the surplus store.
APD is asking that if you bought a crock pot or printer in a box (model: E709-A Hewlett Packard) since August of 2018 from the State Surplus Store located at 6506 Bolm Road, that you return the item or call 9-1-1 and your local law enforcement can assist. APD wants to stress that the devices are not explosive or harmful, but can appear that way.
