BREAKING: Fatal Kyle crash shuts down IH-35

as — Kyle Police reported, SB I-35 is closed at the Yarrington exit due to an accident that resulted in a fatality. Traffic is being diverted onto the access road at exist 213. Traffic is currently backed-up to exit 210.

 

 

Four 18-wheelers and a Dodge pickup truck were involved in the accident which happened around 2:35 a.m. One of the 8-wheeler’s struck the pick-up truck from behind that was carrying three male passengers. That vehicle hit an 18-wheeler in front of it, and then caught on fire.

 

 

 

Emergency personnel are conducting an extrication of an occupant in the pickup. All lanes of SB I-35 are now closed between exit 213 and Yarrington Rd.

 

 

 

Kyle Police Chief Jeff Barnett said several of his officers were working in the area at the time assisting with lane closures due to construction.

 

 

 

“The accident happened in front of several of our officers,” Barnett said. “They assisted in rescue operations until Kyle Fire Department arrived.”

 

 

 

Chief Barnett says San Marcos Fire Department also assisted with rescue operations. Two of the pickup truck occupants are being transported to an area hospital with serious injuries. A third occupant was deceased on the scene. Neither 18-wheeler driver is known to have any injuries.

 

KVUE reports confirmation from Police Union President, a off duty Austin Police Officer was critically injured in the second accident.
