BREAKING: Kyle Police Chief Barnett Is Place On Administrative Leave

Kyle City Manager Scott Sellers has been granted authority by Kyle City Council to appoint Captain Pedro Hernandez of the Kyle Police Department as acting police chief to lead the Kyle Police Department for the purposes of adjudicating an ongoing civil service matter. Police Chief Jeff Barnett will be placed on administrative leave pending the conclusion of the investigation for which Chief Barnett is not the subject.

The timing of this matter will be determined as part of the ongoing litigation. Interim Chief Hernandez will oversee the day-to-day operations of the police department until the investigation is concluded.

Captain Pedro Hernandez’s appointment as Interim Chief of Police for the City of Kyle will become effective at 12:01 A.M. on the date immediately following notification from Investigator Chuck Edge that a final investigative report regarding new allegations of misconduct by Jesse Espinoza has been completed.  The Interim Police Chief appointment of Pedro Hernandez shall remain effective until disciplinary action, if any, is taken by Interim Chief of Police Hernandez as a result of the findings of the investigation completed by Investigator Chuck Edge.
