UPDATE: 3 people dead in crash near Wimberley, RR 12 shut down

UPDATE: RR 12 is now OPEN!

The Hays County Sheriff’s Office says the crash happened around 11:20 a.m. on Ranch Road 12 near Hugo Road. Both directions of RR 12 are blocked while first responders take care of the situation.

The Department of Public Safety says a truck was travelling eastbound on RR 12 when it passed in a no-passing zone, crashing into a car head on.

The driver of the truck, as well as the driver and passenger of the car, and elderly man and woman, died at the scene. Three other passengers in the truck were taken to St. David’s South Austin Medical Center for treatment.

All lanes of RR 12 were closed for several hours but reopened just before 2 p.m.
