Brief Pursuits Result In Overnight Arrests In San Marcos

The San Marcos Police Department engaged in two-vehicle pursuits in the same area of town at approximately the same time last night.

SMPD Interim Chief Bob Klett said social media posts incorrectly reported that gunshots were fired during these incidents.

“Our officers were involved in two separate vehicle pursuits around midnight, but no gunshots were fired during those incidents,” he said.

He added that no officers involved in the vehicle pursuits sustained any injuries.

According to Klett, the first incident began just after midnight in the 1400 block of Craddock Ave. when a patrol unit stopped a gray 2016 Buick Enclave.

The driver, Aubrianna Alvarez (DOB 05/10/1999), initially stopped, then reversed and backed into the patrol car. She then fled from the scene.

A vehicle pursuit ensued in which Alvarez’s vehicle eventually stopped a second time at 1701 Old RR 12, where multiple officers conducted a high-risk stop on the vehicle.

During that stop, Alvarez refused to exit the vehicle. Officers breached her window and removed her from the vehicle.

Alvarez was booked into the Hays County Jail on charges of Reckless Driving, Evading with a Vehicle, Assault on a Public Servant, Resisting Arrest, and Possession of Marijuana.

At this time Alvarez has not been released from the Hays County Jail.

The second incident began at approximately 12:15 AM in the 1740 block of Old RR 12 at the Edge Apartments.

Klett said patrol officers stopped a 2008 silver Infiniti G35, driven by Elijah Montez (DOB 01/31/2001), who then fled the scene.

Officers engaged in a vehicle pursuit. The driver went over sidewalks and through the grass behind the complex, striking a raised sidewalk.

“At that point, the driver fled on foot,” Klett said, “He was then tased and quickly arrested by officers.”

Montez was booked into the Hays County Jail on charges of Evading with a Vehicle, Evading, Possession of Marijuana and Reckless Driving.

At this time Montez has not been released from the Hays County Jail.
