Kyle, TX — Kyle Police report that the brother of Gilbert Villegas, who was arrested recently as a suspect in a fatal hit and run, was arrested today.
Daniel Villegas, 50, who has a Kyle address, was charged with Tampering with Physical Evidence, a third degree felony. He was booked into the Hays County Jail.
KPD Captain Pedro Hernandez said he is proud of the investigative work by his officers and detectives to track down Gilbert Villegas and to produce enough solid evidence to obtain a warrant for his brother’s arrest.
He added that more arrests could be imminent.
“The vehicle suspected in the hit and run, a charcoal gray Kia Optima with possibly front passenger bumper damage and a missing side view mirror, has not been recovered,” he said. “It is possible that more charges against other family members or friends of Mr. Villegas will be made as investigators believe there were others who assisted in covering up the accident and making false statements to police.”
Gilbert Villegas, 47, of San Marcos, is suspected of striking John Lyon, 53, who was riding a bike, on May 27 along the access road of Interstate 35 in Kyle near Yarrington Rd.
Police say Villegas fled the scene. A passing motorist discovered Lyon in the grass later that day.
On June 20, Gilbert Villegas was arrested on the charge of Accident Involving Death, a second-degree felony.
Capt. Hernandez said anyone with information about the incident or who knows the whereabouts of the vehicle should contact Kyle Police at 512-238-3232.

So very sorry to hear of the death of John Lyon, a.k.a. Poinze. I met him at California High School in Whittier, California back in 1982. It is so sad that he was killed in a hit and run while riding his bike on the road in Texas. He was a very nice guy with a big heart. He was the first punk rocker that I met in High School. Rest in peace always John Lyon!
Sincerely,
Your friend always, Gina Noel from Cali
