The Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO) Transportation Policy Board adopted the 2021-2024 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) on June 8.
In order to contribute $633 million to the I-35 Capital Express project sponsored by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), the CAMPO board decided in April it would defer funding for some TIP projects and maintain others.
The TIP consists of the four-year transportation programs from regional transportation entities including TxDOT-Austin District, Capital Metro, CARTS, and other local sponsors that have federally funded or regionally significant projects.
Among the projects the board chose to maintain is the construction of U.S. Highway 183 two-lane frontage roads from Avery Ranch Boulevard to RM 1431 for $75 million. TxDOT expects to advertise that project for bids in August 2023.
Other projects that the CAMPO board chose to maintain are:
The scenario adopted by the board also maintains a Regional Transportation Demand Management program for $498,720 that uses strategies for alleviating congestion during peak travel times.
