SAN MARCOS — Beginning today, Tuesday, July 6, Cape Road will close to traffic for the installation of a storm drain. The installation is an extension of the Blanco Gardens Drainage Project and was added to the Main Lift Station Force Main Replacement Project as a result of utility work along River Road.
The roadway is expected to remain closed until July 30, weather permitting. Commuters who normally use Cape Road to avoid State Highway 80 will be required to turn around. Traffic control signage is in place as a reminder for drivers to avoid the area. Stokes Park will be accessible from Luciano Flores Street.
The Main Lift Station Force Main Replacement project included the installation of a bulk reclaimed water filling station, a reclaimed waterline, a concrete box culvert for stormwater, and six storm sewer crossings along River Road. Additional stormwater improvements were constructed adjacent to River Road on City property to catch excess runoff flowing down River Road during rain events.
