CARTS transit route changes

SAN MARCOS – The Capital Area Rural Transportation System (CARTS) interurban 1517 route has paused operations through Monday, May 31. The route will resume under a modified schedule in June. 

Between June 1 and August 5, the interurban 1517 route will depart from Texas State University at the Woods Street transit shelter at 7:45 a.m., 9:45 a.m., 3:45 p.m., and 5:45 p.m. CARTS 1517 interurban route will depart from the San Marcos Station, 338 South Guadalupe Street, at 7:50 a.m., 9:50 a.m., 3:50 p.m., and 5:50 p.m.

The interurban 1517 bus will depart from Austin’s Plaza Saltillo, 412 Comal Street, at 6:45 a.m., 8:45 a.m., 2:45 p.m., and 4:45 p.m. The 1517 interurban bus will depart at South Park Meadows, with a CapMetro stop on Turk Lane, at 7:10 a.m., 9:10 a.m., 3:10 p.m., and 5:10 p.m. 

There will be no interurban 1517 service from Aug. 7 to Aug. 20. The 1517 route operation will resume its regular schedule on Monday, Aug. 23. Passengers interested in traveling from Austin to San Marcos can ride the interurban 1510, which will run on its regular schedule.

Riders may purchase interurban daily and monthly passes on the HopThru App. Passes are available for purchase at Plaza Saltillo or the San Marcos Station. Tickets are not available for sale by drivers and seating limitations will be enforced on a first come first serve basis.  

Local San Marcos “The Bus” routes will continue to be fare-free until further notice. Passengers on all routes are required to wear face coverings, as outlined in the latest guidance released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Riders are encouraged to practice social distancing.
