CASA Of Central Texas To Break Ground On New Training, Support Center In San Marcos

By, Terra Rivers, Managing Editor

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Central Texas will host a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, January 31, for their new Training and Support Center in San Marcos.

CASA is inviting the public to join the celebration, which will take place at 10 AM at 2725 Hunter Road.

Over the last 30 years, CASA of Central Texas has provided advocacy services for local children in Central Texas. The new facility will serve volunteers and children from Hays, Caldwell, Comal and Guadalupe Counties.

Currently, CASA does not have a facility of its own in Hays County to host training sessions for volunteers. According to CASA of Central Texas Executive Director, the facility is expected to be completed by December 2019 weather permitting

In 2018, with 261 active volunteers serving as Guardians ad Litem, CASA helped 597 children from Caldwell, Comal, Guadalupe and Hays Counties. However, an estimated 560 children have been without the voice of a CASA.

State and local elected officials, representatives from Texas CASA, donors, project partners, CASA staff and volunteers and community members are expected to attend the event to “celebrate this milestone for CASA and our children.”

CASA of Central Texas began in 1985 in Comal County with 18 volunteer advocates and the mission to recruit and train volunteers who would provide an objective viewpoint in civil child protection court cases.

By 1994 the program expanded into Hays and Caldwell counties and into its fourth county, Guadalupe, in 1996.

Individuals interested making a difference in the life of an abused or neglected child in your community, or for more information about the CASA fundraising dinner and auction, please contact the CASA office at 830-626-2272 or visit www.casacentex.org.
