SAN MARCOS, TEXAS – Central Texas Medical Center (CTMC) has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for knee replacements.

“We could not be more pleased to earn this certification,” said CTMC President/CEO Anthony Stahl. “Being named a Joint Center of Excellence for knees ensures we are meeting our goal of providing our joint patients the best service possible and reassures the community that they don’t have to travel to Austin or San Antonio to receive exceptional total knee replacement surgery.”

To achieve Center of Excellence status, CTMC underwent a rigorous onsite review and Joint Commission experts evaluated the hospital’s compliance with national safety standards, as well as clinical practice guidelines and performance measures.

“Achieving Knee Replacement Certification recognizes CTMC’s commitment to provide care in a safe and efficient manner for patients,” said Patrick Phelan, executive director, Hospital Business Development, The Joint Commission. “The certification is an indication of the coordinated care provided by a multidisciplinary team of healthcare providers to patients undergoing total knee replacement surgery.”

Established in 2016 and awarded for a two-year period, the certification was developed in response to the growing number of patients undergoing a total knee replacement surgery, as well as the increased focus on clinical evidence-based patient care as it relates to pain management, quality of life issues, functional limitation in mobility and the return to normal daily activities.
