Central Texas Students in 55 Elementary Schools to be Offered Free Flu Vaccines in Largest School-Based Flu Immunization Campaign in Texas

Students in five Central Texas school districts (Hays CISD, Manor ISD, Pflugerville ISD, Taylor ISD and 12 Austin ISD schools) will be offered influenza vaccines this fall at no cost to school districts or families to help the most vulnerable members of our community remain healthy and stay in school during the 2014-15 flu season.

Campaign kick-off
10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29
Windermere Elementary School, Pflugerville ISD
1101 Piccadilly Dr., Pflugerville, TX 78660

Almost half of all student absences in our region are due to acute illness. There is a direct correlation between high student absence rates and county-reported flu outbreaks in Central Texas.  E3 Alliance in partnership with Healthy Schools LLC and Schoolhouse Pediatrics is launching the largest on-site school flu immunization campaign ever in the State of Texas. The campaign will take place November 3-7, and will offer free vaccines to ALL students in 55 elementary schools in 4 Central Texas school districts and 12 pilot schools in Austin ISD. The campaign aims to improve student and family health and lower absenteeism in our region.

Healthy Schools LLC and Schoolhouse Pediatrics will be joined by football greats Vince Young and Tony Boselli, Texas Sen. Kirk Watson and Pflugerville ISD Superintendent Dr. Alex Torrez to kick-off the largest school-based flu immunization effort in Texas, which will occur in the 55 schools during the week of November 3–7, 2014.
