Central Texas Wings To Host Homecoming Ceremony For D-Day Aircraft

After a month-long tour in Europe to honor the 75th Anniversary of D-Day, the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) is hosting a homecoming ceremony for the iconic World War II C-47 That’s All, Brother (TAB) on Friday, Aug. 9 at 10 AM at the Central Texas Wing of CAF, San Marcos Regional Airport, 2249 Airport Drive.

The hangar will open to the public at 10 a.m. and the historic aircraft is tentatively scheduled to land at 10:30 a.m. The City of San Marcos Fire Department will hold a water salute for the plane during its taxi to the hangar.

The ceremony, beginning at 11 a.m., will include speeches from Central Texas Wing Leader Joe Enzminger, City of San Marcos Mayor Jane Hughson, CAF President/CEO Hank Coates, and Representative John Cyrier. The event is free and open to the public. Once the ceremony concludes, guests are invited to tour TAB as well as the CAF.

“The efforts put in to recovering and restoring That’s All, Brother inspire new generations to access the matchless stories of the World War II era,” said Mayor of San Marcos Jane Hughson. “It is an honor for our city to serve as the permanent home for this remarkable aircraft.” 

TAB led the formation of more than 800 aircraft that dropped approximately 13,100 paratroopers of the 101st and 82nd Airborne Division behind enemy lines of Normandy on D-Day, the first major blow in the Allied liberation of Europe.

Last month, TAB joined 14 other American C-47s to cross the Atlantic and participate in “Daks Over Normandy,” an event that commemorates the Allied invasion of Normandy.
